Grabbing a black towel, Buddy daubed his sweaty brow before swinging it in windmilling slaps against the strings and continuing with the Stones’ “Miss You.” Hoots and hollers, chants of “Buddy, Buddy, Buddy,” and applause persisted as he laid his guitar to rest for the night. The band jammed on while Buddy smiled and schmoozed, signed front row autographs and flung handfuls of picks before exiting to the funky rhythms of his four-piece. Beaming a grin so wide that his silver molar glistened in the hot house spots, the aged and gruff bluesman was cocky and proud but extremely gracious admitting, “This the kinda welcome that would… should I say that? …Make me think about moving out here.” After the rowdy applause died, he added, “Then you’d get tired of me.”

What I will say, is that Shania’s people skills at the pre-awards show Press Conference was horrid, looking absolutely foolish; me on the other hand would have had the press eating out of the palm of my hand…but then, what does that have to do with singing (just had to get that in there)…lol…?
At one time, it was my hearts desire to become a country music sensation, but by the time it all fell into place, September 1995 at the CCMA awards show, Hamilton, ON Canada, as Shania was receiving her fourth of six awards, and while I sat in the audience with Bob Kasner from the ‘Mary Bailey Management Team’ (hottest next to Garth Brooks’), Luc Lewis, President of Mercury Nashville, and he (Bob) shared how he and Mary had agreed to begin working with me, my feelings had long changed…since about fall of 1989 to be exact, shortly after my second wife had asked me to leave. Two weeks later I was subtly introduced to Jesus Christ, seriously, in a book called “The Power of Positive Thinking” by Norman Vincent Peale…given to me by the very woman who asked me to leave; and I always thought I was the positive one, wow!
Out of the blue, Kevin Melville Simpson, the guy who evidently didn’t have it all together as well as he thought (I take full blame), experienced a 180* turn around in his way of thinking, seeing within himself as vividly clear as water, that his leadership style needed to change, that he could not continue leaving children (8 month old with wife #1 and 8 month old with wife #2), fatherless any longer.
Needless to say, since late 1989, I found myself engulfed with an indescribable urge/desire for scriptural studies…to know more about this Jesus, the man whom just prior to this point had only been a figment of my imagination; a David and Goliath fairy tale in a little red book (bible) passed on to me December 25, 1966 by Grama (the way she {Ida} spelled it) Hogan, my mom’s mom.
I was well on my way to becoming a Pastor by September of 1995, and today have the equivalent in (Unorthodox) study hours of a Master’s Degree in Biblical Studies; meaning nothing if I should boast or do anything shy of walking the talk of the Christian faith as humanly possible according to His word from Genesis 1 – Revelation 22…nothing added nor taken away.
So it seemed like one minute I was singing on TNN’s new show cheap nike dunks , ‘Country Today Magazine”, produced by Don Dashielle, (terrible job) or “Be A Star” much better, lol, and the next I was leading worship in a church, country gospel included, and shortly thereafter leading as a Pastor.
Now considering all the above and the fact that I will be back to share my HUGE DEBT (where it came from and how I intended on removing it), that followed me when I walked (real faith needed) from my music deal…you might want to consider your own options in regards to removing your own debt (trust me, you won’t feel you have any when you know what I owe)…
